Daytona Press Release

“My heart and prayers go out to our injured fans in Daytona,” Stated Danny Efland after Saturday’s Nationwide race. He continued, “the drivers and crews know that this can be a dangerous sport but NASCAR works constantly to improve our safety. The tracks work to protect our fans but when things go wrong as they did Saturday, it brings a realization to all of us that we must learn from what happens, especially in protecting our fans who are there to have a good time and do not deserve to be at risk. I wish a speedy recovery to each of them.”

“My Flex Seal Camaro from Johnny Davis Motorsports was an excellent car that kept me in the lead pack all day,” said Danny, “we had worked on drafting and the air so we were prepared to run with the other cars in the tight 25 car packs. With a conservative race plan I did not intend to really race until the last quarter of the event. Crew chief, Dave Smith and his men did a perfect job with pit strategy and the spotter kept me out of trouble.

When it was time to go we went. Everything worked out until with about 5 laps to go several cars tangled on the top of the track. I got down on the apron and all seemed fine until a spinning Kasey Kahne bounced off the outer wall and came down, collecting me. I finished 4 laps down in 25th place. Even so, I am very encouraged for this season. I led my first lap in a NASCAR race and have the great people at Flex Seal supporting many of the races this year.

I am looking forward to Bristol. See you at the races.”

by Tracey Keys and Thomas Malnight
September 12, 2102

What do Honda, Haymarket Exhibitions, and your plumber have in common? Bartering. Business bartering is big, and it’s happening at every level. The International Reciprocal Trade Association reports that in 2011 over 400,000 companies worldwide used bartering to earn an estimated $12 billion on unwanted or underused assets.

Our Global Trends research, along with discussions with senior executives around the world, show that in response to tighter credit and budgets companies are exploring new ways to create and capture value. In this context, they see bartering as a way to steer around the restrictions imposed by cash and credit, to extract value from perishable or underperforming assets, and to expand channels to market and find new customers.

Business bartering has been around for a while (Pepsi conquered the USSR by exchanging the soft drink for vodka in 1990), but the pace is rapidly increasing. In 2010, for example, the North Carolina Bar Association approved the participation of attorneys in organized barter exchanges allowing them, for example, to swap legal services for credits to “spend” on a vast range of services from computing to web design, auto repairs and advertising. Now, at barter exchanges across the world, professionals from doctors to electricians are trading their services for goods, services or “trade credits” which can then be used to pay for business expenses whether printing, advertising or travel. Meanwhile, corporate barter firms, the intermediaries in barter transactions, have flourished, helping companies to create value from assets which may no longer fit their strategy, may not be working at capacity or are no longer needed. Client firms swap what they don’t want or need for something they do — frequently media services. In addition to swapping goods and services for media, companies can use the trade credits they receive from the bartering intermediary to exchange for freight, travel, waste management and equipment. Honda, Kia and Subaru have bartered cars for media trade credits. Haymarket Exhibitions made part payment for advertising using tickets to their exhibitions. Leading electronics firms have bartered discontinued stock, placing it in leading hotels in exchange for media and trade credits — gaining a potential new client in the hotel group in the process. Food manufacturers have bartered excess inventory in exchange for media credits or trade certificates allowing them to purchase other services such as hospitality and cleaning. Lufthansa has bartered real estate for media credits and aviation fuel.

Companies considering bartering should consider three questions:

Are there services for which you could barter to improve your cost base or capacity utilization? For example, if you are in the travel industry, can you trade “perishable” excess capacity — whether rooms or golf tee times — for flat screen TVs or refitting your fitness center, as Magnolia Hotels based in Denver has done?
What underperforming or non-strategic assets do you have that could generate value through creative bartering? For example, food processor Hormel Foods Corporation sold a frozen food brand which no longer fit its strategic goals to corporate barter firm ICON in return for putting part of its media spending through ICON.

What other assets could you benefit from bartering? For example, could a barter deal quickly expand reach, credibility or brand recognition in the market for new products poised to launch? One start-up microbrewery in the US funded its launch and purchase of essential services by bartering for its stock via a barter exchange — building its brand in the process.

Look around your organization. How can you use barter to reduce costs, enhance revenues, build awareness or otherwise expand the pie? What linkages do you need to build in your organization, for example between purchasing, finance and the business units to make these deals work?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PR Contact: Fitzgerald PR Inc. 770-887-6060

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (August 27, 2012) — Tradebank International Inc. (Tradebank) celebrates its 25th year of offering businesses exceptional barter experiences. The company’s longevity can be attributed to its continuous and sustained growth of new clients and trade volume lead by a dedicated staff. Tradebank is an International trade network that assists companies across a variety of industries to increase sales and conserve cash while still obtaining the products and services they need to run their business.

John P. Davis, president and CEO of Tradebank, is considered a pioneer of the modern barter industry and founded the company in 1987 with 258 businesses in the metro Atlanta market. Today, Tradebank has over 70 outlets servicing thousands of clients in the U.S. and Canada. Purchasing volume alone has reached to over T$40 million annually.

“I’m passionate about barter,” said Davis. “I have seen how it positively influences business performance and the personal lives of business owners as well as their employees. Tradebank’s biggest contribution, however, may be in its ability to help non-profit organizations — especially in times of great need.” Members of Tradebank have donated time, services and trade dollars to help people during catastrophic events and support local community organizations by utilizing donated T$ and saving cash.

Tradebank is prepared to thrive for another 25 years. Growth includes:
•	Expansion of key markets with the focus on previously undeveloped regions of the U.S. such as the Northeast and West Coast
•	Enhanced software and technology
•	Providing value added benefits through the foundation of new divisions and the implementation of new financial products

“Over the past 25 years, Tradebank has built a vast trading network comprised of thousands of business owners throughout North America,” stated Todd Gerry, senior vice president of marketing for Tradebank. “Many of those founding clients, while now second or third generation, are still a part of the organization today as they fully understand the impact that barter, and Tradebank, can make to their bottom line profits. Of course, none of this success would be possible without the dedication and experience of our franchisees and their staff. We have amassed some world-class talent that share our passion and vision for the barter industry.”

Businesses in Southern Nevada have another way to get the goods and services they need.

The company offering the service is new, but the method they use to get the companies the services they need is an older form of doing business, known as bartering.

Tradebank of Las Vegas opened in June in Henderson. The bank is a fee-based business that matches small businesses looking to keep some of their cash while still getting certain products or services.

Joe Lotito, regional director with Tradebank Las Vegas, said that in less than two months, he has signed up a number of attorneys, florists, accounts, and other local businesses to participate in the barter program…..

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (August 1, 2012) — Lavonda Henry, the Tradebank of Indianapolis Regional Owner, represented Tradebank International at the historic NASCAR Nationwide Series race held on July 28, 2012 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Henry witnessed a day of firsts and milestones as she and her guests, Tradebank clients Charlie and Nikki Dorton of PIP Printing and Marketing Services in Avon and Gus Pearcy of Gus Pearcy Communications in Danville watched the race from the Pit and Garage area. Two cars in the race were sponsored by Tradebank International.

The Indy 250 race was a first in many ways. It was the first time the Nationwide Series competed at the legendary Brickyard. Jeremy Clements, the driver of the No 4 car, the Tradebank Chevrolet, finished in the top ten for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller which was a first this year for the race team and driver. Tradebank is also an associate sponsor for the #01 car, driven by Mike Wallace who finished in the top 20 in Saturday’s race.

“Tradebank has a strong presence in the Indianapolis market and having the Tradebank cars racing here in Indy gave us a great opportunity to showcase our barter services to our local and national trading partners,” said Lavonda Henry.

Jeremy Clements adds, “This was a great run for this No. 4 Tradebank Chevrolet team. Our car got better and better through the weekend and the race. Once we settled into a good rhythm, we were able to hold our own out there and race faster. A top-10 finish for the first Nationwide Series race at the famed Brickyard is great. I can’t thank Johnny Davis and the entire team for a great run – can’t wait to race with them again.” Clements was also awarded the Featherlite “Most Improved Driver” award.

Atlanta Business Chronicle
13 July 2012

Atlanta banks have been working to capture new lending in the small-business market, but on smaller deals, they face competition from a much older form of currency: bartering.

Several barter banks have sprung up in Atlanta in recent years. The institutions are fee-based companies that match small businesses looking to keep some of their cash while still getting certain services.

Tradebank of Atlanta is one such franchise. Managing partner Kyle Walters said the group, which came to Atlanta in 2009, has grown its business by two-thirds in the three years it’s been in business here.

“We’ve really seen a huge increase in spending within our network since 2009,” Walters said. The company works with at least 1,000 small-business clients in Atlanta, and more than 8,000 businesses nationwide, though Walters didn’t want to disclose the exact number.

It works like this: small businesses, particularly service providers like restaurants and salons, open exchange accounts with Tradebank.

The businesses agree to provide a service, say, $100 toward meals at the restaurant, if the member is a restaurant owner. In return, Tradebank gives the restaurant $100 on a card. The business owner can use that on services from any of Tradebank’s network of businesses.

The fee Tradebank charges to facilitate transactions is between 12 percent and 15 percent, about the going rate on barter transactions nationwide, Walters said.

“We’re in this to make money, just like every business owner,” Walters said. “Because cash is perfect and the barter model isn’t, we have to constantly find how to fill it in.”

The small-business owners who decide to participate in bartering are taking a big risk: If they provide a lot of services, it’s possible they won’t get anything in return if the service providers they’re using leave the network.

Sanjay Banit owns Classic Touch Cleaners at Sidney Marcus Boulevard and Piedmont Road in Buckhead. He says when he first started bartering, he was worried he’d end up losing money.

“It was a risk in the beginning,” Banit said. “When I first joined barter, I was just curious about how I could spend. But now I actually have a waiting list of trading dollars I want to spend.”

Banit has been doing business with Tradebank since it came to Atlanta, but he also worked with Barter Consultants International, a Marietta-based company.

The problem with Barter Consultants was that you would provide services to the network, but not get anything in return.

“The service wasn’t there where people were willing to trade,” he said.

Barter Consultants has 3,000 members, though not all of them are active, said Gilbert Fisher, director of broker operations for the company.

Fisher was brought on in late June to help fill the gap Banit was describing: matching clients who’ve given services to the service providers they want in return.

“We work with them and find out what their needs are, then either match them with an existing member or sign a new one to fill that need,” Fisher said.

He cautions business owners to limit how much they’re offering to barter.

“It’s a way for companies to eliminate their excess,” he said.

Mit Amin, who owns The Beverly Hills Inn in Atlanta, says he’s been bartering for 20 years.

“It helps when I don’t have cash for something,” he said.

He says he’s lost money on barter networks that weren’t as well-populated.

“There are other trade companies in Atlanta I’ve lost money on in the past,” he said. “I’m very dubious about who I do business with.”

Volume in Tradebank’s network has grown to several hundred thousand dollars monthly, Walters said, though he wouldn’t specify exact amounts.

“It’s not the answer to a failing business. Cash is essential. But if you have the capacity to take on an extra job here and there, it’s absolutely essential that you make barter a part of your business model,” Walters said.

Saturday’s race marks a milestone for the Nationwide Series teams who are competing for the first time at the famous Brickyard 400 and their fans. For the past 30 years the NASCAR’s Nationwide Series ran at the Lucas Oil Raceway. The famous Motor Speedway was reserved exclusively for the Sprint Cup. Saturday’s race at the Brickyard will be the inaugural event for the Nationwide Series in Indianapolis, a town synonymous with racing. JD Motorsports with Gary Keller will have the #01 car and the #4 car competing.

Tradebank will be sponsoring both cars in the 250 mile race. Tradebank is an associate sponsor of the #01 car driven by racing veteran Mike Wallace. Jeremy Clements is driving the #4 car, the Tradebank Chevrolet. “Both Wallace and Clements will be competing in cars which have been built to be able to trade paint with the top finishers in the Nationwide Series. We look for a strong performance that allows both drivers to show off their racing skills in a car that is built for superior performance,” says Tony Priscaro of JD Motorsports.

“Tradebank has a strong presence in the Indianapolis market and having the Tradebank cars racing here gives us a great opportunity to showcase our barter services and the local trading partners,” says Lavonda Henry, Tradebank of Indianapolis Regional Owner.
